Wikipedia's statistics page adds that about a third of articles are marked as stubs, the label for very short articles. A large part of the encyclopedia is short, and only a small share has been through formal quality review.

How many people edit Wikipedia?

Far fewer than read it. Special:Statistics counted 55,154,492 registered accounts as of October 2026, but only 269,023 registered users had performed any action in the previous 30 days.

The monthly editor figures from Wikimedia Statistics show how concentrated the work is. For September 2026, counting edits to articles by editors classed as users rather than bots or anonymous editors:

Edits to articles in September 2026Editors
1 or more90,585
5 to 2418,385
25 to 996,382
100 or more4,006

That puts the number making five or more article edits in the month at 28,773, and the core making a hundred or more at about four thousand. Wikimedia Statistics also recorded 126,732 new registered users on English Wikipedia in September 2026.

Since the project began, Wikipedia's statistics page says, more than 12.4 million users have edited English Wikipedia.

How many Wikipedia administrators and reviewers are there?

English Wikipedia had 818 administrators as of October 2026. Administrators are the editors who can delete and restore pages, protect them and block accounts. Other trusted roles are larger or smaller depending on the job.

The new page reviewer figure is the one that matters most to anyone with a new article. Every new article that is not created by an autopatrolled editor waits for a new page reviewer or an administrator to mark it as reviewed, and until then it is hidden from search engines for up to 90 days.

How many new Wikipedia articles are created?

Around 500 a day, according to Wikipedia's statistics page as of October 2026, and roughly 190,000 a year in recent years. Creation peaked in 2006 and has fallen since.

The monthly series from Wikimedia Statistics counts new pages created in the article namespace. For the twelve months to September 2026 it ran between 16,075 (April 2026) and 19,087 (March 2026), with 16,461 in September 2026.

How many Wikipedia articles are deleted each year?

In 2025 there were 94,037 deletions in English Wikipedia's article namespace. The figure, from the deletions chart on Wikipedia's statistics page, includes redirects as well as articles, so it overstates the number of real articles removed.

YearDeletions in the article namespace (including redirects)

The sharp fall after 2017 coincides with the change that restricted article creation to autoconfirmed accounts, which Wikipedia's statistics page identifies as the probable cause.

Before you edit anything yourself: every change, deletion discussion and declined draft stays in the page's public record, and reviewers read it. A free page health check tells you what that record already shows.

How many Articles for Deletion discussions are there?

Typically several dozen a day. Articles for Deletion discussions are listed on daily log pages, and each discussion normally runs for at least seven days. Counting the discussions listed on the daily logs for mid-October 2026 gives the following:

Daily logDiscussions listed
12 October 202656
13 October 202652
14 October 202650
15 October 202651
16 October 202659
17 October 202646
18 October 202639

These counts include discussions relisted onto that day's log for more input, so they are not a pure count of new nominations. They give a fair sense of scale: around 350 discussions over a week. Our guide to Articles for Deletion explains how they are run.

How long are Wikipedia's review queues?

Long enough to measure in weeks for drafts and in years for the oldest unreviewed articles. Both queues are published live.

QueueFigureSource, late October 2026
Drafts waiting at Articles for Creation3,458Review notice and the pending submissions category
Waiting estimate shown on submitted drafts"7 weeks or more"Review notice

The draft estimate is generated from the age of the oldest submissions still waiting, not from the average, so it describes the slowest part of the queue. Our guide to how long Wikipedia draft review takes explains how both queues affect a new article.

September 2026 was about 9 per cent below September 2025, when the same measure recorded 6,916,125,844 views. For whole years, Wikipedia's statistics page gives 130 billion page views for English Wikipedia in 2024 and estimates 144 billion in 2025, or more than 4,500 every second.

How many edits are made to Wikipedia?

English Wikipedia had recorded 1,377,291,241 edits to all pages by October 2026, an average of 20.71 edits per page, according to Special:Statistics. Wikipedia's statistics page breaks down the 2025 total:

Edits in 2025English WikipediaAll Wikimedia projects
All edits62 million517 million
By humans51 million316 million
By bots11 million201 million

The same page estimates that around 4 to 6 per cent of all edits are reverts, and that articles receive around 15,000 to 20,000 protections a year. Every one of those edits, reverts and protections is logged publicly against the page and the account involved.

What do these numbers mean if you plan to handle a page yourself?

Two things stand out. The first is scale against attention. Over seven million articles are maintained by a few tens of thousands of regularly active editors 818 administrators and 888 new page reviewers. Any single article, draft or request competes for a sliver of that attention, which is why queues run to weeks and why a request that is unclear or badly sourced tends to sit unanswered.

The second is permanence. Deletions, reverts, protections and blocks are counted in these statistics because each one is logged. The figures that measure Wikipedia's activity are the same records that later reviewers read about a subject. Our guide to what a failed Wikipedia attempt leaves behind explains how that history is used.

For a simple, well-sourced correction, those odds are fine to take on yourself. For a new article, a page under deletion or a contested biography, the thin attention means the first attempt needs to be right. Our Wikipedia services cover creation, updates, repair, disputes, monitoring and translation, and a free page health check is a sensible first step if a page already exists.
